"What's In A Name" How I Named My Dog

My husband wanted a house dog.  I was totally against an inside dog, and I wasn't sure that I was prepared for the responsibility of a new puppy. My husband kept whining like a little kid until he eventually won out and we went to our local shelter, Adopt-A-Pet.  I saw a cute little tiny dog of the litter.  My husband wanted the much furrier, much bigger male dog.  While we were discussing them and playing with them, the bigger, furrier female pushed her way to front. She was literally dancing.  Well, there you have it, she picked us!!

We took this beautiful dog home, and I was still not too happy about a house dog, but she was cute.  We showed her where her food bowl was, took her on many walks, and sat in our living room and played with her. When it became nighttime, my husband began to take this puppy to our bed.  I said, "I don't think so, not in my bed."  Remember, I didn't want a dog in my house, let alone in my bed!! I must have been pretty convincing because against what he wanted, he put her in our laundry room.

Needless to say, not with her own family, and now not with ours, she was alone and scared.  She started to whine.  Then she started to bark.  This was followed by some kind of honking noise like a Canadian goose!!!  She baa-ad like a sheep.  She whinnied like a horse.  I am telling you she gave us every type of dog bark and baby cry she could to lure us out to her. We went and checked on her and she stopped. This continued on all night long.  I wondered if the neighbors were going to call a report us for having an indoor zoo. Later we were discussing all her noise and one of us said that she was like Cybill, the girl that had multiple personalites.  Indeed that was true.  She did seem like she was exhibiting that kind of behavior!! It fit her perfectly.   Our faces, lit up.  We immediately knew that was going to be her name.  So Cybill it was then.

So Cybill spent two more nights in the laundry room making all of her zoo noises, and we ran back and forth from our bedroom to hers, trying to keep her quiet.  Yep, on the third night, my husband made me put her in our bed.  She spent almost every night there afterward.(Exactly where my princess should be sleeping!!)  Her personalities intergrated and from that night on, she only had a few to show us every once it awhile.  Later we found out she had many spare toes, but that is a story for another time...............

I am posting this dog tale as a part of the “What’s in a Name?” Campaign sponsored by DogFenceDiy, the invisible fence alternative. No matter the name, DogFenceDiy cares about the safety of dogs everywhere.
