Since we are a very frugal household the lesson "knowing your true worth" is surely one that I try to have my kids understand.  My husband carpools to work and I stay at home with the kids.  We just have one car.  We don't need two car payments when he can pay to commute cheaper than a car payment, insurance and gas.  I stay at home with the kids because I want to, but all of us know that means we might not have as much as someone else.  Since I am so frugal, I feel we do not do without things, but we might not go the mall every weekend, or a huge vacation every year.  We do take a small road trip or two a year.  With all this said, I make sure my kids know that it is ok if we don't have the biggest house, the best car, or a boat.(put that one in there for the husband!)  They know that they are just the same as everyone else, and it doesn't matter what they have.  On the flipside of this, I always like to remind them that the little kids that do not have as much as we do, are again, still the same as them!  The Penniless Princess does a good job of taking the point home that she is the same person regardless of being rich or poor.  I hope a lot of the little ones watching get this message.  I think life at school would be much easier for all if all income levels learned what "The Penniless Princess" did.
